22 August 2021 – Teachers Network Releases Second Raspberry Pi OS Distribution
A new version of the Teachers Network Raspberry Pi OS distribution is now available for download. The swap partition has been reduced in size from 16 GB to 6 GB. This is still more than is needed for the current kernel configuration and may be reduced again in future releases. The root file system mounting parameters have aslo been updated to be friendlier to flash memory and to run slightly faster. We have switched from compressing the download image file from gzip to xz compression. This increased the compression ration from 2:1 to 3:1 enabling faster downloads. more…
1 August 2021 – Teachers Network Linux Distributions for the Raspberry Pi
Teachers Network announces the availability of the Linux images used on our pre-built ECE Workstations. Reliability and performance (in that order) are the driving forces behind our repackaging of Raspberry Pi OS and Ubuntu Linux. While most distributions provide a small installation image which can then be customized by the user, our workstation solutions specifically target ECE students and teaching organizations. A full range of programming, electronics, desktop publishing and graphics editing applications are included. Our goal is to make as many of the needed applications across the ECE courses available without the need for separate downloading and installation. Many other applications which we feel might be of interest to the ECE student are also included. The ability to explore and ask “what if” questions is important in all areas of education including the computing environment in which they work. more …

1 June 2021 – Automatic Site Registration Temporarily Disabled
Due to attacks on the member registration system we have temporarily disabled automated account signups. In the process we may have also removed a few legit member requests. We want to encourage real people in the education community to sign up for free accounts, but at the same time we need to make sure that the site remains friendly with no criminal elements. While we work on further hardening our registration system, if you want an account please send a message to info@teachers-network.com and let us know who you are (and that you are indeed human) and we’ll set things up manually for now.
